My name is Kahu Whiu, I am 30 years old. After working in the building industry for the past few years I noticed a gap in the market for small to medium building, renovation, maintenance and repair projects.
Whilst working for my last company I noticed all of the smaller projects getting turned down as well as most of the medium size projects, we just couldn’t fit them in-between the large projects. I am here to pick up those jobs the bigger builders could not.
I have a vast experience in a broad range of industries, from the Military where I served in the weapons engineering department of the Royal New Zealand Navy, to corporate where I worked in the Business Development Management team for a software distribution company.
I began working in the building and construction industry in 2018, I completed a Level 3 Certificate in Building (Carpentry) at Unitec where I was top practical student. Whilst completing the certificate, I began working part time for a company doing residential renovations.
After completing my certificate I moved onto a company which focused on commercial office fit outs . After 12 months I decided to look for something more exciting, and that’s how I ended up doing building maintenance via heights access (Abseil, Fall Arrest, Elevated Work Platform).
Unfortunately once Covid hit I found myself back in the residential building industry again. This time I was fortunate to work for a company focusing on architectural new builds and major renovations. This gave me a lot of experience with higher end materials and the ability to work to a high level of quality.
